The Bay Area indie rock duo known as Elder Brother have just premiered a single off their upcoming full length over at BuzzBands. Elder Brother features Dan Rose from Boston’s Daybreaker and Kevin Geyer of the Bay Area pop punk band The Story So Far. In 2014 the duo released the full length “Heavy Head” through Pure Noise Records which really got fans wondering who Elder Brother actually was since this was their first release. A year later they released a concept album titled “Wish You Were Here” which contained 3 covers(The Get Up Kids, Ryan Adams, Pink Floyd) and one original all with the same song title.

Fast-forward to now and we have the first single off their upcoming full-length which they titled “No Reason”. It’s definitely different from what Kevin does in TSSF, but it’s definitely a fresh sound that I’ve been waiting to hear for a long time. Totalling in at 3 1/2 minutes the single is a great little taste of what Elder Brother is, and how their sound can’t necessarily be defined solely as “indie-rock” when it is so much more.

What’s different this time around is that the band recorded at Nu-Tone Studios in Pittsburg, CA with producer/engineer Ben Hirschfield. My old band recorded with him and he definitely puts his own personal touch on the mix while still letting the artist have control over how the song ultimately comes out. In this blend of indie-rock with other elements of possible garage rock, Elder Brother has gotten this song stuck in my head only after the first couple of listens.

If you want to catch them live soon, Elder Brother is on the lineup for the High & Low Festival on Sept. 9 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino. This festival has big name acts like Death Cab for Cutie and Brand New, so to see them on a lineup like this would be phenomenal to say the least.
