“Demons In Your Choir” feels like one of those songs that just kinda sneaks up on you when you need it most. At first it’s laid back and a little eerie, and then before you know it, you’re fully locked in and feeling way more than you expected.
The Red Clay Strays lean hard into that gospel/soul side here that they’ve become known for lately, and it really works. The organ and choir give it this almost church-like vibe, but it never feels over the top or forced. It just sounds natural, like that’s where they were always heading. And when everything swells together, it hits you like a ton of bricks.
What really makes the song, though, is the feeling behind it. It’s basically about watching someone you care about get pulled in the wrong direction and not being able to do much about it. That idea comes through pretty clearly, which honestly makes it hit harder. It feels like something most people have seen or gone through at some point.
Brandon Coleman’s voice fits it perfectly. He keeps it pretty controlled, doesn’t try to overdo anything, and that actually makes it more emotional. It sounds like he means every word instead of trying to impress you.
Overall, it’s just a really solid, heartfelt track. Just honest and a little haunting in the best way. Definitely one song I’ll have on repeat for the summer.
