I’ve been looking forward to hearing what In Memory would do next, and One Dream Away didn’t disappoint. Featuring Tyler Small of Saving Vice, the single feels like another step forward for the band instead of just another heavy song with a guest feature.
The first thing that stood out to me was how well everything flows. The heavier sections hit, but they never feel like they’re there just because every f*cking metalcore song needs a breakdown. The melodies are just as memorable as the riffs, and the song keeps you interested all the way through without feeling repetitive.
Tyler Small fits this track really well. Sometimes guest features can feel forced or take over the song, but that’s not the case here. His part adds something different without taking away from what vocalist Justin Jynx already does well. It feels like two bands that naturally complement each other rather than a feature added for hype.
The production is solid courtesy of Robbie Litchfield. Everything sounds crisp and not overproduced, and it’s easy to pick out each instrument instead of everything blending into one wall of sound.
After a few listens, what stuck with me most wasn’t just one riff or breakdown, it was the song as a whole. It feels like In Memory is getting more confident with every release, and they’re starting to carve out a sound that’s their own instead of chasing what’s popular in the genre. You can hear it in their live shows as well, definitely recommend you check them out on tour.
If you’re already into bands like Saving Vice or Currents, you’ll probably enjoy this one. Even if you’ve never heard In Memory before, One Dream Away is a pretty good place to start. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to go back and check out the rest of the band’s small catalog, and that’s usually the sign of brighter things to come.
