Trivium Hit Hard With New Single “Dead Inside Of Me”

After more than 27 years of making metal, Trivium show absolutely no signs of slowing down. Their new single, “Dead Inside Of Me,” is catchy, hard-hitting, and heavy while still carrying the strong melodic hooks that have become such an important part of the band’s sound.

The track marks the first new music from Trivium’s forthcoming eleventh studio album, following 2021’s In the Court of the Dragon. It also introduces this next chapter with Alex Rüdinger behind the kit alongside Matthew K. Heafy, Corey Beaulieu, and Paolo Gregoletto.

Musically, “Dead Inside Of Me” hits with crushing guitar riffs, a thick groove, aggressive drums, and plenty of guitar work. There is a lot happening here, but the song never loses its hook. That is what makes this one work so well. It is heavy enough to hit you in the chest while still being incredibly catchy.

I also love that Trivium took the time to make a real music video rather than simply releasing another lyric video or visualizer. Directed by Pavel Trebukhin, the video is extremely well done and adds another layer to the song.

The concept is dark and thought-provoking, fitting perfectly with lyrics centered around what we hide inside ourselves and the face we present to everyone else. Paolo Gregoletto explained that the song was loosely inspired by the Japanese concepts of honne and tatemae, dealing with the tension between a person’s true inner feelings and the mask they show the outside world. That idea comes through strongly in both the lyrics and the unsettling visuals.

“Dead Inside Of Me” is a strong opening statement for whatever Trivium has planned next. Nearly three decades into their career, they are still bringing the heavy metal, still writing memorable songs, and still finding ways to push forward without abandoning what made fans love them in the first place.

If this is the first taste of album number eleven, I am ready to hear what comes next.
