One familiar face and one new face were recent additions to the growing label that is Cardigan Records. Rookie Of The Year and Paperback have been signed by the North Carolina based record label who previously had To Speak Of Wolves before they returned back to the legendary Solid State Records. Both bands have released new singles as well along with their announcements.

Not Really A Rookie

Rookie Of The Year has been a band for many many years. So much so that they were supporting acts like Secondhand Serande back in their prime. Ryan Dunson, who technically is the band, had this to say about the new single ‘Empty House’:

‘Empty House’ makes me think about the last day you’re living in a place you called home. Everybody gets a little emotional the last day before you head to your new place from the old. Memories are sometimes all we have and I tried to capture that. I’m losing my parents’ lakehouse this year where I’ve written most of my songs. So we brought the video crew and shot it at the cabin. This song/video really means a lot to me. I’ve been working with Matt Thiessen of Relient K for a decade with Rookie’s studio records and it was a nice way to portray ‘Empty House’.

Cardigan Records found Shane Kelly also added:

Cardigan Records is very excited to be putting out the next Rookie Of The Year record. It is very hard to find someone to match the passion that Ryan has for his music. Personally, I remember riding around Fayetteville, NC with Ryan many years ago listening to some of the first Rookie Of The Year demos. There is definitely some history between us and it feels like things have come full circle with the Rookie/Cardigan partnership. I’m very excited for Rookie fans as well as new listeners to hear what we are cooking!

Paperback

PaperbackAfter 101 shows across the southeast and a 2017 EP release, Paperback landed on Cardigan’s radar. Paperback released the single ‘Growing Pains’ earlier this year and premiered the video this week via New Noise Magazine. While talking to New Noise, Paperback said:

Signing to Cardigan [Records] has everyone in the band very excited and honestly feels natural.

This record is more dynamic than anything we have ever done. It’s combining a familiar drive from previous songs but adding more texture and depth than our last EP. I think that comes from this release being a far more collaborative effort.
