When Kittie unleashed Spit in 2000, it was a gut punch to a scene dominated by testosterone-driven nu-metal. Fast forward 25 years, and the Canadian metal trailblazers have revisited the track that started it all with Spit XXV. It’s a reimagined version that honors its roots while embracing the sonic evolution the band has undergone over two and a half decades.
Spit XXV feels like a reunion of old fury mixed with a modern sound. The song preserves the venomous bite of the original, its snarling riffs and feral energy remain intact, yet the updated production adds a clarity and depth that simply wasn’t possible in the early 2000s. Reuniting with legendary producer Gggarth Richardson, who steered the original sessions, gives the track an added layer of authenticity and nostalgia without sounding dated.
Lyrically, Spit has always been a manifesto of defiance, ripping into hypocrisy and deceit with raw honesty. That message still hits in 2025. If anything, its relevance has grown with age. Morgan Lander’s vocal performance is nothing short of ferocious, balancing her visceral screams with a seasoned sound that speaks to her growth as an artist. The rhythm section, anchored by Mercedes Lander’s punishing drums, pounds with renewed weight, while the guitar work sounds tighter and perfectly dialed in for modern ears.
Spit XXV doesn’t just reimagine a classic, it reaffirms why Kittie remains one of metal’s most enduring and essential forces. Brutal, unapologetic, and sharper than ever, this track reminds us that some things aren’t meant to mellow with time. They’re meant to roar louder. Kittie will be releasing three more tracks off their debut album to give them the same treatment. The four song EP, Spit XXV, will drop on September 19th.
