Originating from Las Vegas, NV, Goner is a 4-piece emo rock band who is quickly on its way to being a relevant name in the industry. They bring an upbeat and driven sound, paired with lyrics that reflect on feelings of apathy and frustration. This pairing of potentially clashing sounds creates an interesting combo that kept me wanting to hear more from the band. With that, their vocals are a nice mix of veering towards yelling, which gives it some grit, while still retaining that melodic aspect to them.
While this is only the first taste, this is only the beginning for the guys in Goner. They bring a relevant sound while retaining their authenticity with their own sort of style thrown in there. While keeping the catchiness of the pop punk genre, they capture hints of the emo rock sound that make this band definitely worth the listen. My favorite aspect of the song was probably all the little guitar licks that are thrown into it that give it some interesting phrases to pay attention to.
Dylan Baeza – Guitar/Vocals
Justin Houle- Bass/Vocals
Andrew Houle- Guitar
Derrick Deluca – Drums
Their vocalist Dylan had this to say about how their song Buried came about:
Buried is about the weight of past mistakes and figuring out how to move forward from them. I basically wrote it just thinking about dumb shit I’ve done, mistakes I’ve made, and how I finally was able to like forgive myself after I changed and tried to move on from it all.
