If you were at the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia a couple nights ago, you were in for a real treat. Parkway Drive announced a small 7-show East Coast run, with support from Wage War & The Word Alive. These would the only 7 North American shows of the year. The show sold out a week or so in advance, and an hour before the show, the line to get into the venue was wrapped almost the entire length of S Orianna Street.
About an hour after doors opened, Wage War took the stage. These guys have gotten progressively bigger and bigger since their run on Vans Warped Tour last summer. They played a shorter 7 song set, opening with “Stitch”, and playing “Don’t Let Me Fade Away”, both new songs off their upcoming album “Deadweight”, due out August 4th via Fearless Records. They’ll also be embarking on their first headline tour next month, so check their website out for those dates.
The Word Alive took the stage second, and by then the crowd was almost packed into capacity. They played 8 songs including “Overdose”, a single released late last year, and also “Misery”, which was released back in March. While there’s no word yet on a new album, it’s definitely in the works. I love catching the The Word Alive, as their one of those bands on the circuit that stands out for putting 120% into their performance every night.
After a short intermission, the lights went out and Parkway Drive took the stage. The crowd went absolutely nuts, almost like it was the last time. It was in some ways the last time, as Parkway Drive announced a few songs into their set that it was their final show 2017. Not just in North America, but in the world. One can assume this can only mean one thing. It’s time for Parkway Drive to enter the studio and begin working on another magnificent album of new music. The crowd didn’t disappoint, and gave security in the front their moneys worth of crowd surfers, and also constructed one of the largest circle pits I’ve seen in awhile, so big, infact, there was an island in the middle. Parkway played a mixed set of fan favorites and kept it heavy with songs such as “Carrion”, “Karma”, and “Boneyards, before breaking into their encore of “Crushed” and “Bottom Feeder”. I can’t wait to see what Parkway Drive has in store next.
