It’s not too unusual for bands to tour together close to releases, but within 24 hours, both Citizen and Circa Survive have announced a collective tour with AFI, released singles, and news on upcoming albums. Usually there are cycles of bands releasing albums, usually lining up so we expect the same flow of music. 2017 has been anything but that. With bands releasing music for the first time in 7 years like Envy On The Coast, or The Juliana Theory getting back together for 20 year reunions.
Yesterday at around 4pm PST, Circa Survive announced a new album which will be titled “The Amulet”, and is going to be released through Hopeless Records on September 22nd. This signing was definitely not expected by us here at Soundlink, but we’re excited nonetheless. Circa Survive is always consistent, even with their last album Descensus being written while the band was in the studio. Anthony Green is definitely a highlight on this new single, it seems like in the 3 years since the last album, and with him performing with Saosin again, that he’s only gotten better with time. This 6-minute banger titled “Lustration” is a decently long single, but definitely worth the listen!
Next up we have Citizen releasing their new single “Jet” off their upcoming album titled “As You Please” on October 6th through Run For Cover Records. Citizen caught my attention around the time Youth came out, showing that they’re going to be one of the more recognizable new bands that is currently putting stuff out. With their latest release titled “Everybody Is Going To Heaven” being more shoegaze, the newest single sounds a bit more like a combination of Youth and the latter. They’ll be playing songs during their run with AFI and Circa Survive I’m sure, so if they come to your area I’d highly suggest checking it out.
Also to note, both albums were produced by Will Yip, so this is definitely a testament to how hard Yip is working.
