Avenged Sevenfold is currently out on tour supporting Metallica on their Worldwired Tour, but Wednesday night marked a very special and unexpected night for those in Philadelphia region. Avenged Sevenfold was forced to cancel their appearance at the May 12th date of the tour in Philly, while guitarist Syn Gates flew home to welcome his first child, with his wife Michelle. They promised a return to make up the show, and Wednesday night they followed through with that promise. The show, a free one to any fan who wanted to attend, filled the BB&T Center in Camden, New Jersey to capacity, somewhere in the area of 14,000 people. This wasn’t your ordinary show, as there were no assigned seats, so fans lined up as early as 6am to claim their spot(s) on the barricade, or try to snag that sweet seat in the first row, and the amphitheater filled up quicker than the blink of an eye.

After a 40 minute opening set from Philadelphia band “Everlit”, Avenged Sevenfold slowly took the stage, with drummer Brooks Wackerman emerging first behind his drum kit. With the opening riffs of “The Stage” in his hands, lead guitarist Synyster Gates took the stage second to a loud ovation. Rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance shortly followed to join Syn & Brooks, bassist Johnny Christ was next, and last but certainly not least, vocalist M Shadows took the stage and the show went into full swing. Throughout the set, Avenged played a handful of songs from each of their album releases, including “Paradigm”, “God Damn”, “The Stage”, and “Sunny Disposition” off of their newest album “The Stage”. During the encore, right before “A Little Piece of Heaven”, M Shadows pulled a young man his girlfriend up on the stage from the front row, where he proposed to his girlfriend of 2 and a half years – she said yes! Between the 2 of them, and the estimated 14,000 other fans in attendance, everyone went home happy after a blazing 2 hour set from Avenged Sevenfold.
