Whenever I get the chance to highlight a talented group of locals, I jump on it. We heard news of big names releasing albums, or heading out on nationwide tours. But not all that much emphasis is put on our local scene and all of the extraordinary talent that is just waiting to be heard by the rest of the world. The Buried Heart, although started in Chico, is an excellent example of some dudes making the right moves to get their name out in the Sacramento scene; hell, even the whole nation. Describing the sound as emo-punk, singer Jack Wittich, and founder as well, has been gracious enough to give us some insight into the single titled “Garden”. Produced by Allen Casillas of VIS, who also produced Andrés, is the other mastermind behind getting this unique sound that is sure to get people listening. Also to note, the EP was mix/mastered by Nick Loiacono, artwork done by Jonathan Mazaltov.
“Garden is actually a pretty old song that I wrote in 2014, almost a year after my younger brother passed away. The first verse talks about me going back to my parents house for the first time after his passing. We used to hang out and play video games in the basement, and my brothers favorite game was Call of Duty (hence the lyrics about “boarding up the walls to fight off the horde” and “still hearing the rifle sound”). The windchime section in the middle was inspired by a memorial windchime my parents hung on their porch. I was sitting outside in the rain and I had heard it for the first time, walked over, saw that it had my brother’s name and dates on it. that inspired me to use the sound of windchimes in the song” – Jack Wittich
Describing their sound as “floral punk”, TBH is sure to turn some heads with this new EP. And the best part about it is that Jack just wants as many people to hear it so it’ll be completely FREE! I heard this song as a demo last year and since that time Jack has surely put in apparent work to make it what it is today. The rest of the EP slaps as well, even having a few surprises that I’m sure nobody will be expecting. Don’t sleep on The Buried Heart, they’re about to make some waves in the music community.
